In Paris the exhibition "Scholars’ Rocks and Paths of Artist Creation in China"

ROCHERS DE LETTERS ET ITINERAIRES DE L’ART EN CHINE

(Scholars’ Rocks and Paths of Artist Creation in China)

Musée Guimet, Paris
28 March - 25 June 2012

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE EXHIBITION IS TO RENDER CHINESE SCHOLARS’ ROCKS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL BY PRESENTING A SELECTION OF EXCEPTIONAL STONES THAT HAVE BEEN TREASURED FOR GENERATIONS

The exhibition invites us to enter the studio of the Chinese calligrapher, artist and poet in order to grasp the “scholar’s spirit” and its quest to grasp the infinite. Including strange rocks as well as contemporary ink paintings, the exhibit encompasses the history and aesthetics of the Chinese scholar and allows us to appreciate certain paths of artistic creation in China that are still alive today.

Comments by Mr. Joseph Roussel:  France’s leading Asian Art museum has organized an exciting and innovative exhibit featuring stones, rock and landscape paintings by world famous artists Liu Dan and Zeng Xiaojun and various objects from the scholar’s studio.  Most of the stones are from a Chinese collection and have never before been exhibited.  Two well-known US private stone collections have also made loans.  At least one of the paintings was done specifically for the exhibit.  This is the first significant stone exhibit in a European museum and will be a truly exceptional event attracting stone enthusiasts from across the globe.   There will be an accompanying catalogue (in French only).
