XIII NATIONAL A.I.A.S. Congress - 2010 EdiTion

The 2010 has been an important year and rather out of usual schemes for the AIAS Congress.
We have shared spaces with the U.B.I. , the National Association of Italian Bonsaists : to place side by side the exhibitions of the two national associations (bonsai and suiseki) is a good goal, on the wrong note of what  almost always happens , at European level, between E.B.A. and E.S.A..
We have been compelled to sacrifice the number of stones exhibited by every participating A.I.A.S. member, by reducing them to only two and we have anticipated the date which, by tradition, leads us to meet between  the end of September and the first days of October…
But it was worth and we want to hope that, of the careful choice of the two stones to exhibit , the quality of the exemplars displayed has taken benefit.
The matching of the two Conventions in contiguous halls resulted winning , in favour of the visibility and of the greater public crowd and, certainly, the renewed interest of bonsai lovers towards the stones has been a great achievement.
The small fortress of the San Marino Republic is of a unique fascination; the seat is of great prestige, the hosting Club “San Marino Bonsai Association” , has “unleashed”   its staff in the organization of an event which we can hardly forget or match.

The expositive spaces reserved to the AIAS Convention.

This year we have chosen our sole judge among I.B.S. instructors, in person of our Board member in charge Mr. Vito Di Venere , E.S.A. Vice-President and B.C.I. Ambassador for Europe .

By reducing to two the exhibited stones of every attending member, we had N°48 suiseki in Contest, distributed among the five Categories admitted.

The Convention has been enriched by two important didactic moments.
On Friday afternoon Mr. Vito Di Venere has explained the comments and the evaluation critique  that Mr. Jack Dennis,  Newsletter editor for five years of the California Aiseki-Kai, and his wife Mrs. Sachiko, on personal request advanced,  have expressed on the stones admitted in the Catalogue of the past edition of the U.B.I. 2009 Convention in Salerno. Comments that have obtained the rewarding  consent of the numerous public and enthusiasts  attending in the hall , surely indicative of the deep  experience and competence in the art of stones   appreciation of the authors to whom we cannot but to express our sincere and deep gratitude for their precious didactic cooperation.
In conclusion the lecturer Mr. Vito Di Venere,  for the pleasure of the enthusiastic public, has also projected an original DVD of Chinese stones , precious gift of Mr. Willi Benz, admired over all for the mastery in the amazing refined likelihood seeked by the Chinese authors in comparing images of the natural world with the stones of their collections.
On Sunday afternoon,  Mr. Marino Nikpal, has held a lecture on the criteria of suiseki display as accent  item to bonsai exhibition.
The A.I.A.S. 2010 Trophy  has been granted to a landscape stone of  Mr. Sergio Bassi,  I bend down to it” originating from Tuscany Maremma.
